Debra Dunn served as a senior executive in the White House (two administrations), Presidential campaigns, U.S. cabinet offices, and non – profit organizations. She has extensive experience and broad networks in communications, events, fundraising, government affairs, administrative operations, public relations and marketing. Her employment and engagements span a wide range of entities in the educational, political and business sectors.
Currently, Debra serves as a member on the Finance, Governance, and Grant Committees of the Children’s Health Board at Children’s Hospital. In addition to the Children’s National Health System, her non-profit sector experience includes service to Washington National Cathedral and the Cathedral Close Schools, developing and promoting the Cathedral as a venue for the arts and music, and serving as the Gift Officer for Music. She also served as a Director on the Board of Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School for six years, focusing on Development and Governance, as well as the Transition Committee during the search for a new Head of School.
Debra began her career in the financial field, at Chubb Insurance Company, Bankers Trust Co. and J. Bush & Co. She moved to Washington D.C. to take up political work on the Presidential Campaign of President George H.W. Bush as Executive Assistant to George W. Bush. She was Director of the White House Visitors Office from 1989 to 1992 and served as Special Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce for the Presidential Mission to China in 1992. Her political sector service also includes Bush Family Campaign Liaison to the White House and the RNC convention during both Bush/Quayle campaign cycles, Comptroller of George W. Bush’s first successful campaign for Governor of Texas, Senior Staff Bush/Cheney 2000 Campaign, and serving on the executive team that organized the Presidential Transition Office. Following the transition, she again served in the White House, the second time as Chief of Staff to Second Lady Lynne Cheney.
A native of New York City, Debra attended Stuyvesant High School and graduated from Lafayette College with a B.A. in International Affairs. She and her husband, Alan, currently reside in Washington D.C. and are parents of two daughters, Helen, a graduate of SMU currently working in Dallas, and Sophie, a student at University of Texas, Austin.
