Matthew Costello on The Property of the National: George Washington’s Tomb, Mount Vernon, and the Memory of the First President (University Press of Kansas, Fall 2019)
Dr. Matthew Costello is the Acting Director of The David R. Rubenstein National Center for White House History at the White House Historical Association. He joined the Association as its Senior Historian in November 2016. He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in American history from Marquette University, and his B.A. in history and political science from the University Wisconsin-Madison. His first book, “The Property of the Nation”: George Washington’s Tomb, Mount Vernon, and the Memory of the First President, was published in October 2019 by University Press of Kansas. He also teaches a course on White House history at American University in Washington, D.C.
