Late March to early April is typically a popular time of year for people to visit Washington, D.C. to personally experience the annual cherry tree blossoms.
The cherry trees were a gift from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington, D.C. in 1912 as a symbol of the growing friendship between the United States and Japan.
The normally large crowds are smaller this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but The Trust for the National Mall has made a live #BloomCam available so people can enjoy the cherry blossoms from home.
