The Tour de France ended on Sunday with Slovene rookie Tadej Pogacar as the winner. He is the second-youngest winner of the event and the first from Slovenia. Pogacar stood on the winner’s podium wearing a yellow face mask that matched his yellow winner’s jersey.
This year’s event was postponed from its usual spot in July due to COVID-19. Unlike most other major sporting events that have resumed on a delayed schedule, fans were able to cheer on the Tour de France racers in person. This is a difficult event to prevent people from attending as it winds its way through French communities. However, most fans respected the request to wear face masks and keep their distance.
