Nantucket Wine & Food Festival

French-American Cultural Foundation representatives attended the 2023 Nantucket Wine & Food Festival and had the opportunity to experience a wonderful presentation by Chateau D’Esclans featuring their rosé wine, The Pale.

Born in the Var region of Provence, made for a sophisticated rosé drinker and offered at the value level of quality, Provence rosés Sacha Lichine has once again redefined the category. Named after its transparent, pink colour, The Pale by Sacha Lichine embodies all the characteristics of an authentic rosé from Provence.

Château d’Esclans is located near the Gorges de Pennafort, 25 kilometers from the ancient Roman city of Frejus on the Mediterranean coast. The team is led by Sacha Lichine who was born in Bordeaux and educated in the United States. Sacha acquired Château d’Esclans in 2006 and became passionate about making and promoting great rosé wines. LVMH purchased a 55% stake in Château d’Esclans in 2019.

Sacha is the son of Alexis Lichine who played an important role in the globalization of wine. Alexis emigrated to the United States from Moscow and then moved to France during his youth. During World War II, Alexis served with the U.S. Army. When his service concluded, he got to work rebuilding vineyards and cellars throughout France that were damaged in the war. In 1952, he wrote Wines of France which was followed by the Encyclopedia of Wines & Spirits in 1967. Alexis made French wines more accessible to Americans and people around the globe, and many refer to him as the Pope of Wine.

If you live in the United States, check your local wine store – The Pale is available at locations throughout the U.S. and it can be ordered online. If this store isn’t available, there are always alternatives like QKAWine – online wine shop.
