Easter 2020 Celebration at Washington National Cathedral

Published: April 14, 2020

Washington National Cathedral presented a social distancing version of Easter services on Sunday, April 12, 2020. The celebration included a virtual service with 600+ singers and musicians, an organ recital, and an encore performance of Handel’s Messiah.

Following is video from the encore presentation of Handel’s Messiah that was originally performed in December 2019. This English-language oratorio was composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. It was first performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742. This is one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music.
