As we celebrate Independence Day, we salute our French allies

Published: July 4, 2022

As we look back to the founding of our country, we salute our French allies and their leaders who made major contributions towards the United States’ successful efforts to gain independence.

Starting in 1776, when France shipped supplies to the Continental Army, their support continued over the next several years as the war raged on. Lafayette, Rochambeau, Chastellux, d’Estaing…American independence simply would not have happened without the support of our friends in France.

The French-American Cultural Foundation wishes our friends – on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean – a Happy Independence Day.
